RIRKRIT TIRAVANIJA

By: Lauren Serino

Rirkrit Tiravanija is a contemporary artist from Argentina who is currently living in New York. Tiravanija is represented by Gavin Brown's Enterprise, and teachers at Columbia University's School of Arts. His work explores the artists' role in society and focuses primarily on living space. Tiravanija is fond of including others in his artwork, and creating art in motion. He has made an effort to incorporate people in his art since some of his earliest pieces (1990's).

Art has many different levels and you have to make your own level. You have to decide where you want to be, and then just go for that. It doesn’t have to do with anything else in the world. Just yourself. You get there, and maybe nobody sees it, but you get there. It is, at least as I think of it, a spiritual thing.
